Where the ceremonial cacao comes from

I get so many questions on when its the best time to drink cacao and in my opinion you can never go wrong. Although my favourite cup is my first cup in the morning. I normally make it pretty unsweet- 2 tablespoons cacao, cayenne to get my system going, some Himalayan sea salt and 1 date. Then I normally add some chaga or cordyceps mushroom to get me through the day with a happy and calm nervous system

You can get ceremonial from several places in South and Central America but my absolute favourite one comes from Guatemala. I have a very special relationship with it and I just love the flavour and how it makes me feel.

I get mine from 2 different sources at the lake- Ruk’u’x’ulew and Lava Love cacao. You can find them both in my webshop at www.ninamedicina.com

Not many people know that cacao is natures most potent superfood and it has SO many magical health benefits like:

CACAO MAKES YOU HAPPY AND RELAXED

Drinking ceremonial cacao on a regular basis can have therapeutichealth benefits, including creating new neural pathways that can change our daily experience to include more joy, love, and connection. How amazing? Cacao also helps boost our serotonin and dopamine levels. Cacao is a natural anti- depressant with no side effects that can also help relieve emotional stress. Win, win, win if you ask me!

INCREASES ENERGY AND FOCUS

Cacao increases the blood flow to the brain and can create more mental agility, awareness, energy and focus but without making you jittery like caffeine can do for some. It also doesn’t give us the typical caffeine crash that we had one to many in the past.

CONTAINS MANY BENEFICIAL MINERALS

Consuming cacao in its pure form can replenish minerals vital to our body that many of us in the western world are deficient in i.e  magnesium that helps your body relax as well as iron, zink, copper and calcium to name a few.

HIGH IN ANTIOXIDANTS

Ceremonial cacao has possibly the highest amount of antioxidants of any food- more than acai and blueberries and it is said to help you boost your immune system.  A true superfood!

BALANCING TO HORMONAL HEALTH

I have plenty of personal experience of cacao regulating our hormones and a cup a day has helped me with healing hormonal acne, it has drastically reduced my PMS symptoms and my past menstrual cramps. And my past crazy, bad mood around my moon/menstrual time- well that’s nowhere to be seen. Need I say more?

IT’S AN APHRODISIAC

Phenethylamine is a chemical, which occurs in small quantities in cacao and it stimulates the nervous system and triggers the release of the pleasurable endorphins that we love. Cacao also activates dopamine, which is associated with sexual arousal and pleasure. Cacao actually promotes the brain chemistry of feeling in love- in yourself, a partner and in life. Yes, please, thank you!

Here are some of the ladies who are peeling, roasting, grinding and chopping the cacao you can buy in my webshop and that I drink everyday. These woman are SO amazing and I just love to sit in their backyard and smell the cacao being roasted.

Here abuelita (grandmother) Magdalena is showing us how to grind the cacao beans so they turn into a paste- SO hard to do, she just laughs at me when I try.

This is the peeling process- each bean will get the skin peeled and all the moody beans get sorted away and according to these ladies- they get sold to the bigger commercial chocolate companies- YUCK.

This is how the beans get roasted- all done by hand to control the temperature- no bean can get burn as it will kill some of the potency as well as make it taste bitter.
