HAY Dogs

TWWP loves dogs, and their utilities, we want them to look pretty on our walks, right? We had a little chat with Hays creative director Mette Hay about the Danish brand´s new collection for our furry beauties – HAY Dogs.

The idea for HAY Dogs came about when Mette Hay and her friend Barbara Maj Husted Werner – owner of the fashion and interiors boutique Holly Golightly – were on one of their routine dog walks in the woods north of Copenhagen. With Hay’s passion for elevating everyday objects and Holly Golightly’s innate sense of style, they decided to collaborate on a series of cheerful accessories that invite dog owners and their pets into the HAY universe.

Hi Mette! As dog owners, we adore the new collection, are products for dogs something we can look forward to seeing continuously?

– Yes, I believe so. Everyone has been super excited about this collection, so we will definitely look into extending it. I would even say the ball is almost rolling already, and I look forward to seeing where it ends up.

What is your favorite piece from the collection?

– I have a soft spot for the HAY Dog Bed, but that is mainly because of the countless photos I’ve received from my friends and colleagues who also have dogs. I’ve really enjoyed seeing the photos of their pets nestled up in their new bed at home.

For cat owners, can they look forward to something fun from you?

– You never know… and until then, even though it’s called HAY Dogs, all cats and other pets are welcome to sleep in the comfortable beds, enjoy the bowls, and wear the scarf…

As well as the Dog Bed, which features a colour-blocked design, the collection includes Stoneware Bowls and a cotton Dog Scarf. It also features a Collar, Flat Leash and a Braided Leash that come in several matching colourways and a Rope Toy featuring a twisted design.

Can you recommend a beautiful walk area in Copenhagen where you take your dog for a walk?
– Where we live, we’re lucky enough that there are many sights for us to visit. I really enjoy taking our dog, Lola, to Bellevue Beach and Dyrehaven, a beautiful, expansive park north of Copenhagen. There’s also an Arne Jacobsen designed lighthouse on the shoreside, which is worth seeing, whatever the weather.

What can we expect for summer for HAY? What’s been your creative vision?

– Summer is my absolute favourite season. I love the sun, and everything that comes with it—the summer way of life, one could say. Each year, I look forward to getting all those outdoor pieces out: our Palissade Collection, designed by the Bouroullec brothers, and the Crate Collection, which we relaunched in collaboration with Rietveld Originals, are some of the products in the HAY collection that I am most proud of.  That said, I also enjoy seeing our portable lamps being used in the great outdoors during the warmer months of the year.

This year, we are introducing some new short-sleeved pajamas, in connection with a new collaboration with iconic Japanese sportswear brand ASICS which will presented during Copenhagen’s annual design festival 3daysofdesign. It is going to be brilliant to see our staff wearing the collection at our flagship store, HAY House. For me, pajamas have an obvious connection to home, but they’re thoughtfully designed so that you can also wear them outside of the house—it’s like being wrapped in bedlinen all day.

We know HAY strives to develop products that last for a long time, what’s your most iconic furniture/product?

– Hard to say, because we are proud of all our products, but I know my husband would agree that the About A Chair Collection and the Palissade Collection have been enormously important for our development as a company. Both have been part of the HAY Collection for many years, and it’s safe to say that they have been fundamental for and instrumental in building our subsequent indoor and outdoor collections, respectively.

Thank you Mette!
