A Designer’s Inner Space. She founded Liljencrantz Design ten years ago, and since then she has left a distinct mark in the world of interior design. We met with Louise Liljencrantz at home in Östermalm, Stockholm, where she lives with her husband, Christian, and their children Lykke, 12 and Nike, 7. And also, the two Devon rex cats, Jackson and Lille Bror.

“Creating has always been a dream, but interior design and architecture was something I discovered later in life, after I had my first daughter Lykke, 12 years ago. One thought is enough, an idea or a form that feels right into the soul, then I build a world around it, regardless of whether it is a product or an environment.”
Hi Louise, how are you?
“I feel good! Despite strange times I’m convinced that everything has a meaning that usually leads to something better. You have to take care of the moment and turn it to your advantage. Being creative and easy to take initiative can clearly be an advantage.”
And how do you spend your time nowadays?
“I always work a lot but still make time to be with my family and friends, mostly at our country house not far from the city. There hasn’t been much travelling these days so I am very happy that we have a place to go to and that we enjoy so much.”

What does aestethics mean to you?
“It’s about different combinations of forms, materials, it’s about the imperfect and perfect, contrasts that attracts. It involves history, architecture, nature, memories and dreams. Things that makes you feel.”

What projects are you working on at the moment?
“We work mostly with residential projects at the moment, and with our new brand, Veer Makers, with interior and objects that we will launch 2021. I also collaborate with some of the top Scandinavian design brands at the moment, more to come about that.”
Do you have a dream project?
“Many! I always want to explore and give myself into different worlds of forms and beauty.”
Tell us all about your beautiful apartment.
“We have lived here for six years now and it basically look the same as it did after we renovated the apartment. I have added and changed the art occasionally, and some of our furniture from our brand Liljencrantz K.F.K Master Cabinet Makers has moved in. It’s a six room apartment, nearly 200 square meters. It’s a wonderful place filled with natural light facing the southwest, the place itself really has a soul.”

“We bought the sofa ten years ago at ‘Bohem’ in Stockholm. I got the sculpture as a gift from my husband; he knows I love shapes of animals.”
What do you read?
“Right now, a book about Carlo Scarpa, one of my favorite architect and designer.”
Who were you as a child?
“Inventive, creative, impatient, determined and I always went my own way. Cute as a little girl, less cute as a teenager.”
Who are you now?
“I am where I want to be in life, I am so grateful for my family and to have the opportunity to work with what I am passionate about.”

What has motherhood brought to your life?
“They kids made me complete. And I became an adult, I guess. My children are my everything. Overwhelming love. I am contantly worried that something would happen to me or them. Before I became a mother I wasn’t particularly frightened of anything.”
Your three most frequent thoughts right now?
“Make time to do homework with my children … I should stop smoking … Deadlines …”☮
In the room of the youngest daughter, Louise developed her own recipe for wall paint —a light pink / apricot shade. The large apricot lamp was the inspiration for the color choices.
