Small talk

Camilla Larsson

Stylist @ctlarsson ’s work is not ruled by trends but by a special code of beauty, a story that reaches across time, a sense of romance. And she stays true to her aesthetics. Her Copenhagen loft apartment in Frederiksberg is a journey of beauty furnished with unique pieces.

Coming home to Camilla Larsson and Henrik Bülow is pure happiness for a seeker of beautiful things. The apartment is filled with objects, nostalgia, furniture and art that awaken your senses and thoughts. It becomes clear that everything is carefully selected but not for the reason that someone else declared it “in vogue”. There is a saying that goes; This day, a life. In the case of Camilla and Henrik it goes; This home, a life.

On a perfect Saturday …

… I’m having breakfast at home, making it extra special and relaxed. After that, we meet up with friends or family for lunch, go to a playground with Matteo, and finish up with tea and cake at home in the afternoon. Then maybe dress up for dinner out at night.

Three places in Copenhagen that I’d like to recommend are …

… Treat yourself with a time out at Amazing Space – a beautiful and relaxed, top-notch spa. Having breakfast at the new Atelier September in Hellerup. It’s truly an aesthetic experience. Frederik Bille Brahe and his team are so into poetry and details. Visiting Malene Malling’s La Bagatelle shop and studio in Værnedamsvej – everything is exquisite. Malene herself and her team, joined now and then by her lovely daughters and dog, make the atmosphere so unique and homey.

A styling tip to turn a boring day around would be …

… To wear the things you normally feel safe in for other special occasions.

The most important thing when it comes to my relationship is …

… To feel loved. Love that nurtures and grows has an extraordinary beauty to it. I love to love. Simple as that. Henrik might think it’s too much sometimes, but I can’t help it.

My favorite object in my home is …

… A naive drawing (a preliminary study painting) of a woman by Picasso.

The most precious items in my wardrobe are …

… My vintage Levi’s, newly purchased Bottega Veneta brown patent platform heels, and a silver bracelet by Elsa Peretti for Tiffany’s.

I’m into fashion because …

… I guess I’m very visual. At some point in my early teens, I got hold of a Vogue magazine, and when my dad traveled, I always asked him to buy the latest issue of Vogue UK for me, which became the highlight of my life for many years. The reason? All the dreams and beauty that unfolded in those pages. My work as a stylist is my eternal passion. I am drawn to a very specific code of beauty. It seems that I love discovering and being challenged, which I miraculously have been able to turn into my job.

Aesthetics to me …

… Besides my work, it’s my fuel and everlasting inspiration. I work in the field of fashion and visual communication, where aesthetics is being reinvented all the time. I love the surprise of discovering a new aesthetic seed that tells and mirrors our time on point. The way a simple detail can tell you so much never seems to bore me.

When I invite friends over for dinner …

… I try to make it relaxed yet beautiful with a personal setting. I often serve my own fave dish: spaghetti vongole with a green salad, a buttery Chardonnay, and a light dessert, such as a nice selection of chocolate and berries. While preparing dinner, I welcome them with a glass of bubbly and salty nibbles in the kitchen. I really enjoy the informality that kitchens bring to any social event. For the table setting, I use our pink Griegst tableware, white linen napkins, vintage wine glasses from France, my Swedish grandmother’s breadbasket, a huge bouquet of flowers, and candles everywhere around the apartment.

Interior design to me is …

… Expressing who you are but also a reflection of the time of year. I like adding seasonal flowers, fruit, or vegetables that make the home come alive. At the same time, I’m seduced by interiors of any kind that have integrity and are coherent. My home is a mirror of my thoughts, feelings, and inspirations. My partner Henrik and I are both drawn to items that have lived, tell stories, and reflect something extraordinary across time.

Giving birth was …

… Life changing. But also rather painful, even though it went better than expected.

I like to be surprised by …

Anything, actually. My boyfriend, a painting, a special detail… To me, surprises are my fuel, and I like to play with the concept of them in my work as well.

My soul is …

… Probably only accessible and visible to my closest ones. I seem to be very private. My body is my temple and my work tool, and I try to nurture it and fuel it only with the best in life.

In my earlier life …

…. I loved to play and draw, play the piano, and watch classic 80s movies; I still do.

I want to …

… Rework my handwriting. There is nothing more beautiful and attractive than words beautifully written.

My life philosophy …

… Life is in your hands. Guard it and shape it. You have been trusted with it for this purpose alone.

My happy place is …

… All things beautiful that pass my eye – I delve into them and find comfort and peace in them. And I’m really into a good laugh; there’s nothing better. And when I need strength, I reach out to my closest ones.

When I’m old …

… All the above hopefully will still be the pillars of my life. I want to recommend … Oolong tea with milk and honey – there’s something so intriguing about tea, and I love how sophisticated sipping from a teacup feels.
