13 most anti-inflammatory foods we can eat + a delicious soup recipe

Today I posted this food pic on my IG stories. I don’t usually post a lot of food, but this soup is epic and I want to share this pure medicin kind of food with you!! I’m starting my yoga teacher journey within a week and that means I’m all over the books already, and not only yoga but everything around it too.

Ive always loved holistic and spiritual wellness and have spent several hours of reading about it in my life.
Iv´e had chakra healing in 2012 in downtown LA, I´ve done a lot of traditional Chinese medicine and when I fell pregnant with Anaïs in 2014 and wasn’t feeling good, I acidentally read about ayurveda and got hooked. I’m still hooked for life because it´s the only way to go if you wanna heal body and mind and have a sober look on life according to me. Ayurveda looks at all the aspects of life not just a single thing…

I love vino, I love croissants and fig marmalade. But when it comes to feel better through food and in life, I turn to Ayurveda.

It would be about one million words here if I should tell you all about it (I touched a little when I posted about my best pregnancy advice the other week) and I’m not a wellness blog……… (Or am I? maybe a little) sooooo, I’m just gonna say that food actually can heal our entire body, and it can also prevent us from becoming sick in both the mental and physical parts. This is good news you guys!
I dare to say many women have a bad emotional relation to food and through ayurveda that relation can heal. No diet, just food as medicin. Therefor (almost the end of this food blog post), here is the much requested recipe of delicious anti-inflammatory and healing ginger/carrot/turmeric soup and also for your much appreciated convenience, a list of the 13 most anti-inflammatory foods you can eat! yeah!

Now I’m off screen for the day, I’m gonna read a little Rachel Cusk before I pass out.

5 seriously amazing beauty products that actually work

Got requests from you guys about my skincare routine!

WOW… ? I’m so  flattered. Seriously.

I´ve never felt (except a few times  in my life), that my skin is awesome the way it is. I guess we learn our beauty hacks as we age.

Sooooo,  I decided that this is my 1st out of 5 beauty and skin care routine posts that I will share with you! <3

As I get older I really feel that I can not get away with sleeping with makeup on anymore, tan without sunscreen etc, since it´s REALLY starting to show. Therefor I’ve actually come down with a routine that I don’t think I will stop. The products will always change as the market learn about new things of course, but for now, I know exactly what I love….

5 seriously amazing beauty products that actually work

I’m VERY VERY hard to romance when it comes to new products. In any field actually.  You cannot charm me in any way, I know exactly what I like and what I don’t like, and when I find brands / products that I love, I’m so freakkin loyal the brands would cry if they knew.

When I got the chance to try out the Swedish brand VERSO I said yes.

As always, I’m skeptical to new beauty things but I’ve heard good things about them, and also everything eye masks and retinol things are the only VIP exceptions welcome in my bathroom.

I have mixed skin, very dry but also an oily t-zone. Retinol helps to resurface the skin as well as minimizing big pores, scars and even sunspots = Big Yes to retinol.

5 seriously amazing beauty products that actually work

The products I tried  was the Verso super eye retinol serum once a day in the evening, and the Verso super facial serum with retinol as well, once a day for a week. Truthfully, I must say they work.  Its nice to try products and actually see results FAST. I have absolutely no patience and I’m not loyal unless creams smell good, feels amazing and so on. This stuff hurt a bit but I know that’s also because retinol is pretty strong. I believe the products just do their jobs when it stings.

The verso eye mask and facial hydration mask I just loved hard.. I did them before a dinner when I had been sick in flu for a week and I seriously looked amazing.  I’m a mask freak. Again, I have no patience to go to saloons, so the more I can do at home while I do laundry or taking a shower I’m down on! Great masks are great beauty hacks for mothers on the run.:)

Face cream, masks and cleaning routine is next up. Also body beauty! I just need to go and pick up Anaïs from pre-K now so I´ll try to post tonight!

LOVE xx Em

How to make a dream becoming reality

HOW TO MAKE A DREAM BECOMING REALITY

I have taken the first step towards a dream I´ve had in MANY years. Many things has come in my way and the timing has not been right.

For many of you reading this, it might sound so simple, but for me it´s something so big and I´m so happy and excited and nervous. But I´ve finally taken the first step towards fulfilling a dream.

HOW TO MAKE A DREAM BECOMING REALITY

I´ve enrolled to become a yoga teacher. Starting in January I will finally learn to teach others something that helped me go through my worst times. I will hopefully be able to inspire, help and give away something that can make people mentally stronger, happier and calmer in their daily lives. Yoga has not of course been an escape route when I´ve been feeling bad, it´s something my mind and body obsess of doing because of the energy and feeling of satisfaction it gives me.

So. How to fulfill a dream?

1. Take the first step towards it. If it´s a small one it doesnt matter. I haven´t even started but I have enrolled and that´s a step.

2. Know that amazing beenfits come from putting yourself in incredibly uncomfortable sitiuations. I have NO idea how I will be as a teacher but I know that growth comes if you do the above so I´m up for that. I always have had crazy stage freight, but with my love for the music I had to put myself up there on the stage even if if it meant throwing up and being almost paralyzed sometimes before. No matter how I felt the day before and the seconds before I entered the stage, It was always always always rewarding.

I´m so happy about my decicion and I hope you will join my classes later on.

Love to you

When i was pregnant + my best advice about it

WHEN I WAS PREGNANT + MY BEST ADVICE ABOUT IT

First of all- NO – I’m not pregnant again, BUT I promised that I would give my life saving advices for pregnancy! Some of you have emailed me or DM`d me on my IG and asked me to post about this. So a hundred years later…

So. What did I do to feel my best self? As you know by now, I suffered hard from postnatal depression post Anaïs traumatic birth, almost two years ago. I did not seek help because I wanted to be “strong” (its the opposite), so I pretended to be well and that everything was easy breezy until I couldn’t do it anymore. I fell pregnant with my second girl in the fall 2017, and me and G decided that we needed to be close to family this time because I was very scared and he was scared too.

We moved from New York to Sweden.

I did despite all eager prevention, fall into depression during my second pregnancy.  The difference this time was that I was aware of it, and I decided to fight it.

I wanna give you my most valued pregnancy essentials that made me feel incredibly better. From my heart to yours! These things did not take me out of my depression, because sometimes despite everything the doctors order you; ( brisk walking in the nature, a dance class, sunlight, a friend to laugh with etc etc) you just can’t help yourself because it´s simply a chemical problem. It´s not you baby, its absolutely not you.

So. Here we go. But first, my greatest and biggest advice, is to tell how it is. Talk to friends, to a stranger, to your mother, to your partner. Tell them and tell them to help you help yourself with the things you just can’t manage.

Again, if you want to send me a private message, please do, I answer directly on my IG @emelietorling Below is my little guide, it´s annyingly long, but now it´s there! Yey!

Love you

THE BOOKS

These 2 books changed everything for me. Believe me cuz I´m an avid reader and an obsessed researcher about everything. These books are wellness guides with ancient wisdom, they ground you and help you help yourself being your strongest you without pressure.

The First Forty Days by Heng Ou & Yoga Mama, Yoga Baby: Ayurveda and Yoga for a healthy pregnancy and birthby Margo Shapiro

I cannot enough tell you how much they helped me. Non yogis, do not look away.  I’m quite devoted to health, to a spiritualistic and healthy lifestyle but I absolutely could not live a life on this earth without indulging in meat sauce, gluten insane spagetti and a bottle of red wine, so I’m not a freak. I have a playful approach, not a dead serious one. G cooked every dish in “The First forty Days” for me and I brought them with me to the hospital and I felt fkn amazing. He also made bone broth for me to drink during and post pregnancy, For the non-bone broth-religious, I know it sounds disgusting but it´s actually amazing.

WHEN I WAS PREGNANT + MY BEST ADVICE ABOUT IT
WHEN I WAS PREGNANT + MY BEST ADVICE ABOUT IT

CLOSEST TO YOUR HEART

When baby is born, don´t let go. Be skin to skin. The first 40 days are essential that you do nothing else, and the swaddles are endless on the market. Go for organic. There is one cool woman I follow on social media, Signe Siemsen, she is the godess when it comes to knowledge about this.. With Anaïs, I couldn´t do it since she was in the hospital, so when my little Gia Blue was born, I did it all the way and more. Carry them like we did in ancient times.

WHEN I WAS PREGNANT + MY BEST ADVICE ABOUT IT

TWO ESSENTIAL THINGS TO EAT AND DRINK

:Warm Oatmeal with coconut oil, walnuts, chia, linseeds, blueberries, banana, pumpkinseeds:

Warming, nourishing, good fats, vitamins; to have a bowl of oatmeal is simply a perfect thing to indulge in everyday.

:Ojas drink:

(recipes are endless online, it´s basically turmeric, almond milk, almonds, dates, cinnamon etc) (warm of course but mixed in a blender)

Ojas is the subtle essence of the seven vital tissues of the body.  It is said to govern our immunity, energy, and vitality.  When you have strong, healthy ojas in your system, you are able to fight against aging, degeneration, and disease.  You will have sustainable energy, strong immunity, a healthy glow, and a robust libido.  If you find yourself lacking in any of these categories, you may have depleted or imbalanced ojas in your system. It is great to drink first thing in the morning for breakfast to enhance stamina and vitality for the day ahead.

WHEN I WAS PREGNANT + MY BEST ADVICE ABOUT IT

THE VITAMINS

In Sweden I know that some pregnant women do not even take folic acid, but I had my first pregnancy in the worlds most health progressive City, (NYC) , so I followed them. These are the pills I took, and also post pregnancy,  because you would not even understand how much we need them THEN! That’s another chapter… We loose our skin, hair and glow because the baby takes it from us, but nobody speaks about how well we need to nourish ourselves POST baby! A lot of talking about how to eat and drink during pregnancy,  but you don’t hear a thing about how you should do the same after you give birth. BOOM! With the two above books, your post pregnancy will never be dull and you will not look or feel dull. Bonebroth and post pregnancy vitamins goes a LONG way.

WHEN I WAS PREGNANT + MY BEST ADVICE ABOUT IT
WHEN I WAS PREGNANT + MY BEST ADVICE ABOUT IT
WHEN I WAS PREGNANT + MY BEST ADVICE ABOUT IT

THE LIFESTYLE

We all know smoking and vino is a bad idea. We also know that we should get folic acid for the baby brain and sometimes extra iron for a healthy blood. That’s basic. Me personally would say that’s below basic. Because what we need to understand is that we’re in a state when pregnant. My mother said that and I love the expression.

“When you’re pregnant you’re in a state”.

Do you guys understand what I mean? If you don’t, it just means that you consistently without paus, need to oil the machine. You need to indulge in warming foods, warm drinks, dress only in comfortable and bright clothes, (yes bright, for the mood) be in bright light as miuch as possible, soak the sunlight you get, be around happy and calm people, buy lots of plants to your bedroom, take baths with essentials uplifting oils.. bla, bla bla do you get it? Your state should be goddess mode all the way. When you feel calm, comfortable and strong, you can do everything and nothing can kill your vibe.

—–

This should have it´s own chapter, but when you have given birth, you will have a hollow and empty space in your body that will elevate your spaciousness and stress. What do you need to do to ground yoruself? You need to keep yourself warm and swaddled. Your womb is empty and your body needs be wrapped hard to keep you grounded and from getting anxiety. Please listen to these advices. No cold drinks, no cold foods, just NEVER get cold the first forty days after given birth to your baby! If you give birth in the winter, you don’t even have to go outside this first month. Swaddle yourself and your belly with a postpartym belt for the coming six weeks, or with a scarf. Whatever you find just wrap yourself tight to avoid heavy anxiety.Give yourself a warm oil massage

When we´re pregnant it´s all about us. When the baby comes, it´s all about the baby – but we have been born as mothers and we don’t get the slightest attention in comparison to when we were expecting,  that we need and deserves from our surroundings. There should be more out there about how to take the best care ourselves when becoming a mom. Time to change this.

WHEN I WAS PREGNANT + MY BEST ADVICE ABOUT IT
WHEN I WAS PREGNANT + MY BEST ADVICE ABOUT IT

Why do we hide our true feelings? I think it´s because we feel ashamed that we´re not perfect.

I can speak freely about this now because I´m well now. I´m glad I can share this with you, because I know that when I felt like I did, you think you´re the only one in the world feeling unhappy. You´re not alone.

This post was crazy long, disorganized and with a lot of messy pics from everywhere and anywhere. But I hope it can give good to you who needs it.

lots of love

WHEN I WAS PREGNANT + MY BEST ADVICE ABOUT IT

The beginners guide to hiking the mountains with babies and toddlers

If you follow me on instagram (@emelietorling) , you probably saw that our Sunday did not at all turned out how we planned it too!

Actually planned and planned, we did not plan at all / did not do our research before bringing one baby and one toddler up on the snowy Swiss mountains. Huge amateur moment, HUGE!

(Also is it OK if I write in english on the blog or do you prefer Swedish?)

In the morning I googled up “panoramic Swiss hiking trail” and saw something that looked ok. I made pancakes (yeah, it´s really true, but they leaked sticky jam everywhere so you can breathe out) ,and put on my non-waterproof summer sneakers, cashmere pants, no hat and no nothing, and took the family out for a hike 30 min close by via car.

(Nobody in the fam wore anything different from me in terms of good clothing)

We parked the car, it was so grey, it was foggy and no sunshine what so ever. Saw a few people in full winter outfits, and we laughed and said: ! it´s really not THAT cold. People are always exaggerating. Nerdy. Etc”.

Then, we saw a red fairytale train, and realized that we were going up, up, up. And we did.

The beginners guide to hiking the mountains with babies and toddlers

I did NOT plan whatsoever, to have a snowball thrown in my face at lunchtime.

The beginners guide to hiking the mountains with babies and toddlers

I was OK with the snow in my face. Really OK. This day was insane. But we still felt a little bit embarrassed when all the other prepped familys/people went off the train and me an G slided up and almost dropped the stroller because the snow was knee deep and we had cute nike shoes on.

The beginners guide to hiking the mountains with babies and toddlers

We made it up as you can see, to my great pleasure,  so my first GREAT mountain advice for parents: GET A THULE STROLLER.

(No, this is not an ad.) I say it simply because it´s freakkin amazing. 50+ suncover, waterproof, weights absolutely nothing, turns around 360 degrees so easyyyy with one hand, baby can sleep amazingly well, and best of all: you can really hike a mountain with the thing.

1st MAMA DIAMOND ADVICE FOR HIKING

The beginners guide to hiking the mountains with babies and toddlers

So, 30 minutes drive from our house, we were high above the clouds.

Gia bia blue had the coziest time cuz she was the only thing that was shockingly and unawarely prepared for the day´s adventure.

Always bring food, diapers, extra pants when they poo through the first par,  a water bottle and warm stuff if you have a baby.

2st MAMA DIAMOND ADVICE FOR HIKING

The beginners guide to hiking the mountains with babies and toddlers

We had a 360 view of Switzerland and it was powerful, no wind and sunny.

Anaïs was so happy and probably had a snowball the size of a snowman´s head for pre-lunch. She was not happy though because she did not have thermal pants or winter boots, but she jumped around in the knee deep snow anyway and got super-cold and super-wet.

If you have a toddler, always bring an extra set of clothes, no matter where you go.

3st MAMA DIAMOND ADVICE FOR HIKING

The beginners guide to hiking the mountains with babies and toddlers

My little nugget. She had the best time too.The very best thing about the day was that we had no idea what we were going to see. That made it even better. Carpe carpe carpe.

Hope you feel that you can pull a hiking off now after all my amazing advice. #foolproof

Här är vi. Zurich, Schweiz. How did this happen? We honestly don´t know but let´s live and see thr world..

Ja.

Men everything will be alright.

Moving away – again

I´m not kidding you!

… and sometimes it´s more than good to not take life so seriously and just let yourself be happy over the small stuff. Stuff like I’ve found the best jeans in like ten years. Or that I have the most beautful shell necklace from Ia Bon. Or that we’re going on vacation next week to a new place we haven’t been before that seems magical.

What are your plans this Summer?

Damn, you are a good mother

DAMN, YOU ARE A GOOD MOTHER
DAMN, YOU ARE A GOOD MOTHER
DAMN, YOU ARE A GOOD MOTHER

Getting real

hey hey hey!

BIGGEST AND WARMEST WELCOME to my place! (post will be in both Swedish ang English, just scroll down)

It´s a promise!

The contrasts are what makes the good life enligt mig.

Med twist of course. Alltid ett glas rödvin in the end. Puss!

Lots of love!

Hey lovers, so, this is my first post here, again. For you who doesn’t know that I´ve been blogging here before, my name is Emelie Törling, I live in Stockholm atm with husband G and two baby daughters. We moved back from NYC about a year and a half ago. My occupation is currently to hang out with my almost one year old little newbie who doesn’t officially have a name yet.. Yup, I know its a bit crazy but it is what it is. Her name is Gia Aymeline Ava Héloïse but we’re calling her both Gia, Aymeline, Ava and a few other names as well. But we’ve promised that we’ll decide before she turn 1 on July 11. Its a promise set in stone I swear.
Besides my baby, I´ve got a four year old warrior princess: Anaïs. She was born in week 30 and we had the toughest start we could’ve ever imagined. As I mentioned above, I blogged here before but I quit and I quit more things at the same time because I had both post traumatic stress syndrome and postpartum depression post the birth of Anaïs.
Its been a long way back, but today I’m so much better! I wasn’t open with this before but I feel that I want to know because its so important to shine a light on this subject. It´s so taboo which is so fkn weird, because its so many new mothers who get this but we all just try to be perfect. If any of you readers have been going through the same thing or has been, please leave a note if you wish. We are so much stronger together and when you don’t feel alone in a struggle it gets easier. It helped me so much.

When I’m not taking care of my kiddos, I work as a designer and artist. I sing and I have a band together with my man. We haven’t worked on new material in a while but we are now and I feel very excited about that. If you care to check out our earlier stuff, go to soundcloud.com/blue-heroine/rushing-into-you .
I’m a holistic health warrior who loves ayurveda, yoga, chinese medicine, stars and planets, nature and meditation. But I also love red wine, having a cigarette and live on. Contrasts are everything.
I’m gonna post a lot of inspirations within style, travels, music, interior and also my own projects. A few Ayurvedic recipes, organic skin care advice will probably show up as well.
Hope you’ll follow me,
Lots of love
